Cockscomb flowers, also known as rooster comb flowers, are mainly grown in the summer but can be grown year-round.

Cockscomb flowers are not only beautiful ornamental plants but also a good medicinal herb that can treat many diseases.

Celosia is a herbaceous plant, 60-90 cm tall, with an upright, branched, smooth stem. The leaves are oval or lanceolate, sometimes pointed, and smooth. The flowers are red, yellow, and white, with very short stalks, forming almost sessile spikes in dense clusters resembling a rooster's comb. The fruit is oval, almost spherical, containing 1-9 shiny black seeds. The plant flowers in summer and fruits from September to November.

According to traditional medicine, cockscomb flowers have a sweet taste and a cooling nature, and are used to clear heat and eliminate dampness, cool the blood, and stop bleeding. They are often used to treat conditions such as hemorrhoids, irregular menstruation, leucorrhea (vaginal discharge), and hives.

Some commonly used prescriptions:

Irregular menstruation: Brew 9g each of red and white cockscomb flowers and drink the decoction. Alternatively, stew 15g of white cockscomb flowers, 12g of longan flowers, 9g of motherwort, and a sufficient amount of lean pork. Use for one week.

Excessive menstruation: Take a sufficient amount of dried and powdered cockscomb flowers, 6g each time on an empty stomach with a little wine. Alternatively, take 6g of dried white cockscomb flowers twice daily with a little wine or warm water. Use for one week.

Amenorrhea: Simmer 24g of fresh cockscomb flowers with 60g of lean pork, divide into several portions and eat throughout the day. Use for 1 week.

For menorrhagia: Roast 20g of cockscomb flowers and 20g of mugwort until charred. Brew and drink one dose per day. A course of treatment lasts 10 days.

To treat leukorrhea (white vaginal discharge), use white cockscomb flowers; for leucorrhea (red vaginal discharge), use red cockscomb flowers. Dry and grind them into a powder, and take 9g daily in the early morning on an empty stomach. A course of treatment lasts 10 days.

- To support the treatment of urinary tract infections (painful urination, frequent urination): 20g of cockscomb flower, 20g of dandelion, 20g of plantain, 15g of corn silk, 20g of centella asiatica. Boil and drink one dose per day. Use for 5-7 days.

- Treatment for hives: Use the entire cockscomb flower plant to make a decoction for soaking and washing the affected area. If the rash is red, use red flowers; if it is white, use white flowers. Alternatively, use a sufficient amount of cockscomb flower (the whole plant) and Xanthium strumarium, make a decoction, and soak the affected area daily until healed.
