This is the fourth consecutive time that the Indonesian U23 team has failed in its mission to win a ticket to play in the U23 Asian finals.

Since the first AFC U23 Championship was held in 2013, the Indonesian U23 team has yet to qualify for the final round. The 0-1 defeat to Vietnam U23 continued to bury the dream of participating in the continental arena of the young "Garuda" players.

In 2019, even with an honorable victory against U23 Brunei, Sjafri's team's achievement was still the worst result in the history of U23 Indonesia in 4 qualifying rounds of U23 Asia.
