Thomas Markle has given a series of controversial interviews since his daughter Meghan Markle got engaged to Prince Harry late last year. In his latest statement, Thomas said Meghan had cut off contact with her father and claimed the royal family was trying to "silence" him.

Thomas even dragged the late Princess Diana into the controversy by saying she would have been "disgusted" by the way he was treated by the royal family.

"They want me to be quiet, they want me to go. But I will not be quiet, I refuse to be quiet. They let Meghan treat her father in a way that Princess Diana would have absolutely loathed. That is not what Diana fought for. The late princess was supposed to have changed the royal family but she did not do it completely. I think Meghan will be the one to take the royal family into the 21st century if they let her lead," Mr. Thomas said in an interview on July 29.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said Thomas's comments were adding to the anger within the royal family.

"Thomas Markle should know that such a controversial and highly personal interview is an affront to the royal family. His comments about the late Princess Diana were particularly controversial,"Expressquoted Fitzwilliams as saying.

"The royal family has changed for the better since Diana's tragic death 21 years ago. It's clear that Mr Thomas's comments will be deeply unpopular with the late princess's sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. If Diana were still alive, I think she would have wanted Harry and Meghan to be happy together," Mr Fitzwilliams added.
