Prince Harry announces Meghan gives birth to first son

"I am so happy to announce that Meghan and I welcomed our baby boy early this morning, who is very healthy. Both mother and baby are doing well. This has been the most amazing experience I could have ever imagined. We are so grateful for the love and support from everyone out there," Prince Harry told reporters at the time of the baby's birth.

Harry said he and his wife are still looking for a name for their baby.

Kensington Palace also confirmed today that Prince Harry's first child with former American actress Meghan Markle is a boy. The baby weighed 3.26 kg and was born at 5:26 am (local time) this morning.

Earlier, the British royal family announced that the Duchess of Sussex had gone into labor in the early hours of the morning and Prince Harry was by her side.

The location of Meghan's birth is still being kept under wraps. The couple broke with royal tradition and chose not to give birth at St Mary's Hospital's Lindo Wing, where the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to all three of her children.

On April 11, they announced that they had "made a personal decision to keep their plans for the birth of their child private."

Harry and Meghan's child will be seventh in line to the throne and the Queen's eighth great-grandchild.

As of today, Meghan is a week past her due date, forcing her to abandon her plan to give birth at home and give birth at the hospital to ensure the safety of both mother and child.

Meanwhile, Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, is said to have flown to the UK to be with her daughter at her new home, Frogmore Cottage, since April 16. The Duke of Sussex also cut short part of his trip to Thailand this week to spend more time with his wife.
