Actor Luong The Thanh returns to cinema with the historical horror project 'Devil Prince', not afraid of injury while practicing martial arts for the role after nearly a decade of absence.
The return and effort to overcome injury
Actor Luong The Thanh officially returned to the big screen after nearly 10 years focusing on stage and television, taking on the role of Lu Dat in the historical horror film project "The Demon Prince". He said he did not hesitate to accept the invitation from director Tran Huu Tan and proactively participated in the audition to ensure the best fit for the character.
Sharing about the preparation process, Luong The Thanh revealed that he had a back injury while practicing action scenes in Ho Chi Minh City. However, the actor still tried to complete the scenes in Da Lat. "When I went to Da Lat to film, my back still hurt and I had to massage it with oil. I hope these action scenes will bring an interesting experience to the audience," he said. He also said that there were scenes that lasted continuously from 9 pm to 6 am the next morning.
Carefully selected cast
Director Tran Huu Tan emphasized that the crew's criteria is to find actors who are suitable for the role instead of just relying on popularity to sell tickets. The entire cast of "The Demon Prince" had to go through a rigorous selection process. According to the director, in a horror film, the story and the actor's ability to transform are the deciding factors for success.
Anh Tu Atus and Hoang Linh Chi face psychological challenges
The role of Prince Than Duc was assigned to Anh Tu Atus after he passed two rounds of selection. This is a role with complex psychological depth, completely different from his previous roles. To get into the role, Anh Tu spent a lot of time nurturing his emotions and limited communication on set. "This role is completely different from previous roles, every scene is heavy on psychology. This is a new and interesting character," he shared.
Meanwhile, the female lead role of Dao Truc Anh was given to newcomer Hoang Linh Chi. She said she turned pressure into motivation, wrote a diary and spent a lot of time living with the character. To keep the emotions of the role in the romantic scenes with Anh Tu, she proactively maintained the necessary distance.
Movie content and release schedule
"The Demon Prince" is adapted from the horror novel "The Strange Tales of Ly Trieu". The film tells the story of Prince Than Duc, who was born from evil magic and had the ambition to free the Demon Bone Madness to restore the Bone Madness Sect. Under the guise of a gentle herbalist, Than Duc came to the leper village and confronted the village chief Lo Dat in fierce battles.
In addition to the main actors, the film also features Thanh Truc as Phan Cuong and Rima Thanh Vy as Dao Mong Yen. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide from December 5, 2025.
