Hoang Yen Chibi: 'I cried because I didn't think I would win the award'

The winner of the first season of "I Am an Actress" shared that she appreciated the performances of the other finalists. She only knew to give her best performance possible.

- How did you feel becoming the first winner of the "I Am an Actress" program?

- Honestly, I was very surprised by the result. I didn't think I could win first prize because I didn't practice well during the dress rehearsal. Actress Hanh Thuy reminded me a lot about my voice and movements. After being corrected so many times, I became flustered. I don't know what barrier prevented me from showing my full potential. Before the competition night, I was a little sad, but I still tried my best in my performance.

During the final night, I really appreciated the performances of Thu Hien and Annie Huynh Anh. So when the awards were announced, I was overwhelmed with emotion; I didn't think I would be so lucky.

- Compared to the "Star Academy" competition, how do you feel about winning this time?

- Of course, I'm much happier and more thrilled to have won the top prize. The award makes me feel that all my hard work was worthwhile. I'll never forget the moment Thanh Loc announced my name as the winner. I've long dreamed of seeing Thanh Loc perform. Unexpectedly, this time, not only did he praise me, but my idol himself called my name during the crowning moment.

- What are your plans for the 100 million VND prize money?

- I set aside some money to give to my mother to help with family expenses. My younger brother has also just moved to Ho Chi Minh City to study, so the financial burden on my mother is quite significant. The rest I invest in my next music projects.

- It seems contradictory that you participated in an acting competition, yet used the prize money for singing. How do you explain that?

- I participated with multiple goals: to gain experience and learn acting skills, and to earn extra money to help my family and pursue my passion if I won. I believe that for anyone, a cash prize is a motivation to strive for success. If you consider it a well-deserved reward for your hard work, then the winner has the right to enjoy it.

I grew up surrounded by music and I'm most skilled in this field. During my time on "I Am an Actor," I temporarily set aside my passion for music to focus on the competition. This is the time when I feel I have the financial resources, energy, and emotion to create a music video to mark my return to the audience. This is also to fulfill the expectations of those who have waited for and supported me all this time.

- What are your plans for your acting career?

- Currently, I'm still acting in the sitcom "Gia đình ngũ quả" (The Five-Fruit Family). I also hope to get more new roles to challenge myself. These will be exciting experiences, adding to my artistic journey.

Judge Minh Hang once commented that I act very instinctively, using all my emotions. That's a valuable quality that not every actor possesses. I consider this a stroke of luck and a strength. However, I will face difficulties when dealing with psychologically complex characters that require life experience. Therefore, to compete with professional actors, I will definitely have to go through a process of honing my acting skills and other necessary acting abilities.

The singer received support from her mother and younger brother throughout the competition.

- Many young singers, even after acting in multiple films, are still not considered "actors." What do you say about your own situation?

- I don't care what others call me. I started out as a singer, and my talent is singing, so I don't try to be called a star, an actor, or any other title. I let things happen naturally. If I'm lucky enough to succeed in acting, I consider it a step forward in my journey to becoming a versatile artist.
