Held for the first time in Vietnam, ITOT 2015 was organized by the University of Education (VNU Hanoi) with the participation of nearly 600 candidates from 11 secondary schools and 13 high schools in 8 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Anh Vinh (University of Education) said: The exam took place on October 11 and October 25 at Giang Vo Secondary School.

On the first day of the exam, candidates must complete 5 questions within 4 hours. On the second day, candidates have 7 challenges within 5 hours.

The exam questions of the International Mathematics Competition between Cities are prepared by the Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences and are of high professional quality.

The most difficult questions on the second day of the high school exam are rated equivalent to the difficult questions of the International Math Olympiad IMO.

After the Jury completed the marking and reached an agreement with the Organizing Committee of the exam in Russia, it proposed to award prizes to outstanding candidates with a winning rate of no more than 60% and first/second/third prizes of 1/2/3 respectively according to international practice.

Candidates who achieve the standard score will have their papers translated into English and sent to the Russian Academy of Sciences for consideration for a certificate of merit from the Academy.

Thus, after nearly 2 months of organization, the contest ended with 189 official prizes (junior high school), including 33 first prizes, 63 second prizes, and 93 third prizes.

High school block won 133 official prizes with 33 first prizes, 40 second prizes and 60 third prizes.

In addition to individual awards, the Organizing Committee also considers team awards based on the average score of the 10 highest scoring contestants of each team.

In the secondary school sector, the top 3 schools are Hanoi - Amsterdam, Cau Giay and Giang Vo. In the high school sector, the top 3 schools are Natural Science Specialized High School, Hanoi - Amsterdam Specialized High School and University of Education Specialized High School.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Anh Vinh also said: The International Mathematics Competition between cities was first held in 1980 in Russia.

The organization of the exam aims to minimize the costs incurred by the candidates by allowing the local Organizing Committee to organize, judge and award prizes. The best papers will then be translated and sent to the Organizing Committee in Russia for consideration of the International Certificate.

In 1984, the exam gained worldwide attention when it became a commission under the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The number of participants continues to grow rapidly with about 100,000 students from 120 cities in 25 countries participating annually, of which 1,500 candidates receive Certificates from the Russian Academy of Sciences.
