(Baonghean.vn) - Belarus' BelTA news agency on January 16 quoted Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin as stating that the highlight of Belarus' new military doctrine is that no country is considered an enemy.

Speaking at a meeting with President Alexander Lukashenko, Defense Minister Khrenin said: “We clearly emphasize in it (the new military doctrine) that no country can be considered an enemy of Belarus, regardless of the actions of its government. This is the main message, the spirit of the military doctrine.”

Minister Khrenin said that the nature of this document is consistent with the peaceful nature of the Belarusian people. According to him, the new military doctrine is a fundamental document, “reflecting the basic official position of the State (Belarus) on peace and war, on the use of military force to respond to existing challenges and threats”.
In its resolution of March 6, 2023, the Belarusian Security Council tasked the country’s Ministry of Defense with drafting a new military doctrine “in response to recent changes in the military-strategic situation.” Given the escalating global geopolitical tensions, the resolution also stipulates “focusing the efforts of the competent authorities on strategic deterrence to protect the country’s independence, territorial integrity, sovereignty and constitutional order from external and internal threats.”
Belarus' current military doctrine was adopted in July 2016.
