Five school years ago, students in Tri Le commune were fed and housed together when the high school model for ethnic minorities came into operation. They had their own boarding house and were supervised and managed more closely than when they were studying in boarding houses as before.

Teacher Ho Duc Toan was assigned to manage boarding students at Tri Le Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities. Coming from a vegetable growing area in Quynh Luong Commune, Quynh Luu District, this young teacher started thinking about teaching students to grow vegetables right on the school grounds to improve their meals. "Through this, students will be trained in life skills" - teacher Toan shared. From there, a model of safe vegetable growing for boarding students was formed.

The boarding students mainly come from remote villages, quite unfamiliar with vegetable growing, but in return they are very enthusiastic about gardening after school hours. Especially for the first time, many Mong students in Tri Le are exposed to techniques of making beds, adding fertilizer, and planting vegetables in rows.

Initially, the vegetable garden of Tri Le boarding school had an area of over 600m2.2. Teacher Toan guides the students to grow onions, Chinese cabbage, Hanoi cabbage, etc. After Tet, they grow amaranth. Students in grades 8 and 9 are responsible for making beds and planting vegetables according to the right techniques. Students in grades 6 and 7 are responsible for fertilizing, weeding, and watering. Just like that, after only one month of planting, the students' kitchen has more diverse portions with many types of green vegetables.

Recently, a row of boarding houses was built on the school grounds. The accommodation for students is more decent. But because of that, the area of the clean vegetable garden has been reduced. "Currently, the garden is only about 300m2The school has 330 boarding students. Each student is about 1m tall on average.2"Growing vegetables" - teacher Toan shared more.

Mr. Lo Van Diep - Secretary of the Party Committee of Tri Le commune said: "Creating a vegetable garden for students is one of the good ways of teachers and students of Tri Le secondary school. We are very happy because the children of the commune are guaranteed the need for clean vegetables in their daily meals."
