Meanwhile, Pham Van Tan’s family was gathered together when they heard a noise outside the door. When he went out to investigate, he saw a group of about 50 people carrying sticks approaching. The leader of the group told him to bring his children and motorbike into the house and lock the door to avoid being disturbed.
"About 5 minutes after they left, another group appeared. The group behind them made noise and knocked down the B40 wire mesh fence. At that time, a shirtless person came to the front yard and knelt down, asking for clothes to wear," said Mr. Tan.
As the group of escaped youths approached, Tan's neighbor, Pham Van Dang, had to run away with his young child. According to him, while he was helping his child with homework, 40 people broke down the gate and stormed into his house.
He also panicked and said: "Too scared, I hugged my child and ran to the back gate and saw another group carrying sticks approaching. We hid in a hidden corner and escaped."
The homeowner added that the group broke in and took a Nokia phone worth nearly 1 million VND. They rummaged through the closet, took 7 sets of clothes and 200,000 VND, then turned and walked away.
The young men who escaped from the center also spread out into the alleys of residential areas, destroying and robbing property. Mr. Le Tri (53 years old, residing in My Xuan commune, Tan Thanh district) said that at around 8:30 p.m., he drove his motorbike with license plate 72F6-9743 from his home to his company, 200 meters from the Labor Education Center, to work the night shift. While on the way, this security guard received a warning phone call from a colleague. However, the 53-year-old man continued to move.
As he approached the company gate, he saw three young men in white shirts walking in the opposite direction. When he slowed down, one of them blocked his way, holding a rock in his hand, intending to hit him in the head.
"Before I understood what was happening, the other two men approached me with sharp knives and pressed them against my ribs. They asked me to get out of the car or they would kill me. The group of three young men stole the car and sped out onto the asphalt road, heading towards Chau Duc district," said Mr. Tri.
According to this guard, after the incident, he shouted for help but no one dared to come. Mr. Tri walked back to the company and reported the incident to the local police. Mr. Le Tri said that this morning, My Xuan Commune Police and Toc Tien Commune Police called to pick up the car. But the cars the authorities seized were not his property.
