Nghe An Red Cross Society trains to improve capacity in disaster prevention

From October 17-19, Nghe An Provincial Red Cross in coordination with Dien Chau district organized a training course to improve capacity of "Disaster risk reduction and first aid skills for disaster prevention and control teams".

The training course was attended by 50 members of the shock team including the Militia, Commune Police, Red Cross, Women's Union, Youth Union and Village Chiefs....

The trainees were taught some basic contents of community-based disaster risk management by the provincial Red Cross staff, such as: Management work, disaster risk management process; 6 steps to implement community-based disaster risk management; preparation work to respond to natural disasters and catastrophes; common types of natural disasters such as storms, tropical depressions, thunderstorms, floods...; things to do before, during and after a natural disaster occurs; drowning prevention skills; basic knowledge of first aid for people injured by natural disasters.

During the training program, trainees also discussed in groups to apply the knowledge and skills they had learned in situations when natural disasters occurred. This helps trainees to be proactive in preventing natural disasters and risks, especially during the local flood season.
