UN Security Council adopts Presidential Statement on the situation in Myanmar
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) met and adopted a Presidential Statement on the situation in Myanmar at the request of the UK on March 10 (New York time).
Accordingly, the Security Council expressed concern over recent developments following the declaration of a state of emergency in Myanmar by the military on February 1, the arrest of government members and called for their immediate release. The Security Council condemned the violence and restrictions, affirmed continued support for the democratic process, called for respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law, and encouraged peaceful dialogue and reconciliation in accordance with the will and interests of the people of Myanmar.
The Security Council strongly supports the role and efforts of ASEAN, ASEAN's readiness to support Myanmar and issued the ASEAN Chairman's Statement on March 2, which reiterated the purposes and principles of the ASEAN Charter, called for restraint and peaceful solutions through constructive dialogue and practical reconciliation. The Security Council also expressed support for the mediation role of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Myanmar, and recommended that the Special Envoy continue to maintain contact with relevant parties and visit Myanmar soon.

Regarding the humanitarian situation, the Security Council called for ensuring safe and unimpeded humanitarian access for all, expressing concern that the situation would exacerbate challenges in Rakhine State, including safe, voluntary and sustainable repatriation. The Security Council affirmed its support for the people of Myanmar and its commitment to the sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity and unity of Myanmar.
Participate in contributing and building on the above Presidential Statement,Vietnam emphasizesdemanding an immediate end to violence, stabilizing the situation, ensuring the safety of civilians; calling for maximum restraint, conducting dialogue to reach a satisfactory solution, in accordance with the Constitution, laws of Myanmar and the will and aspirations of the people, creating favorable conditions for the smooth progress of democracy; informing ASEAN's efforts in promoting dialogue, seeking solutions to this issue and ASEAN's readiness to assist Myanmar in good faith, in accordance with the purposes and principles of the ASEAN Charter./.
