On April 16, 2017, Baonghean.vn published an article "The miserable family situation of an energetic youth union secretary" about the situation of Vu Duy Trung (born in 1986) in But Linh village, An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district. After graduating from grade 12, Trung's father became seriously ill and passed away, his mother was also constantly tormented by heart disease, since then the door to university was closed for Trung. He agreed to stay in his hometown to start a career, participate in youth union activities, and was elected as the Secretary of the But Linh village youth union.

At the end of 2010, Trung and Ms. Bui Thi Yen became husband and wife; in 2011, they gave birth to a baby girl, and in 2014, the family received good news, giving birth to a baby boy (named Vu Tuan Sang) weighing 2.7 kg at the Obstetrics Department, Quynh Luu District General Hospital.

However, after birth, the baby showed signs of severe respiratory failure and cyanosis and had to be taken to the National Children's Hospital for emergency care. Here, doctors determined that the baby had a congenital heart defect and that if not promptly operated on and treated, his life would be in danger.

But unfortunately, his family situation is now so tragic, he doesn't know where to get money to treat his child. The line between life and death for his little child is so fragile. But with boundless love for their child, the couple ran around and borrowed money everywhere to have money for their child's heart surgery. The first surgery was at the National Children's Hospital, the second surgery was at the Hanoi Heart Hospital. The total of the two surgeries and treatment for the child was nearly 160 million VND.

As the breadwinner of the family, he had to work hard at many jobs, farming, cutting hair, working for hire,... as long as he had money to take care of his family, his sick old mother, his sick young children,... Despite such circumstances, Trung always excellently fulfilled his duties as Secretary of the Youth Union.

But the disaster did not stop there, on October 6, 2016, while working as a construction worker, Mr. Trung was crushed by a wall over 2 meters high, causing multiple serious injuries. At Nghe An General Hospital, doctors concluded that Mr. Trung had a broken pelvis, crushed bladder and severed urethra, and would need to undergo 2 to 3 surgeries to recover his health.
