Meeting between the Ministries of Defense of Vietnam and China.

Over the past period, the Ministries of Defense of the two countries have carried out many cooperation activities that have been expanded, deepened, and yielded practical results.

During his visit and working trip to China, on the afternoon of July 16th, at the headquarters of the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, Senior General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, and Deputy Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, held a meeting with Senior General Zhang Yang, Member of the Central Military Commission and Director of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army of China.

Speaking at the meeting, Zhang Yang, Director of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army of China, warmly welcomed Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Cung and the delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence to visit, work, and exchange experiences with the judicial agencies of the People's Liberation Army of China. He also stated that the delegation's visit contributes to strengthening mutual understanding and promoting practical exchanges and cooperation between the two countries' militaries.

Mr. Zhang Yang stated that in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two Parties, two Governments, and the people of the two countries, the relationship between the two countries' militaries is considered an important pillar, contributing to promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Vietnam.

Over the years, the two countries' militaries have developed a strong cooperative relationship in many areas. This is demonstrated by numerous visits between high-ranking military leaders from both countries, leading to exchanges of experience and mutual learning, especially in political cooperation. For example, in recent years, China has sent eight delegations to Vietnam and Vietnam has sent fourteen delegations to China for exchanges and learning experiences.

Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the leaders of the Chinese Ministry of National Defense and the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army of China, which facilitated the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense delegation's study, exchange, and learning experience on judicial work in the Chinese military; thereby providing a basis for research and application in the practical reform of the judicial system of the Vietnam People's Army.

Regarding cooperation between the two countries' militaries, General Nguyen Thanh Cung affirmed that building, maintaining, and developing a good and lasting friendship with China is a consistent policy of the Party, Government, and People's Army of Vietnam; and also the aspiration of the entire Vietnamese people. Vietnam always remembers and is grateful for the immense assistance that China provided to the Vietnamese revolution during the two wars of national independence and reunification.

Over the past period, the Ministries of Defense of the two countries have expanded and deepened cooperation activities, yielding practical results. In June 2013, the two Ministries of Defense signed two important documents: the Border Guard Cooperation Agreement and the Agreement on the Establishment of a Direct Telephone Line. The two sides have also effectively established and implemented many cooperation mechanisms such as the Defense Strategic Dialogue Mechanism, the Joint Patrol Mechanism in the Gulf of Tonkin between the navies of the two countries, the Joint Patrol Mechanism along the border, and the Mechanism for the Exchange of Young Officers and the Retreat Program.

In the coming time, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence hopes that the Ministries of Defence of the two countries will have more exchanges and sharing of experiences; further strengthen mutual understanding, close cooperation, and effective and commensurate relationship with the comprehensive strategic partnership, worthy of the 16-word motto and the 4-good principle.
