The G-8 Summit concluded and issued a joint statement.

After two days of meetings in Northern Ireland (United Kingdom), the G8 Summit concluded on the afternoon of June 18th with the adoption of a joint statement on the achievements of the summit concerning issues such as the situation in Syria and the fight against tax evasion and fraud.

Speaking at a press conference following the summit, host Prime Minister David Cameron said that G-8 leaders expressed support for holding a peace conference on Syria in Geneva "as soon as possible".

However, the specific date for this conference has not yet been set. He acknowledged that although disagreements remain, G-8 leaders believe they all have a vital interest in ending the current conflict in Syria and helping the people of that country achieve the changes they desire.

Therefore, G-8 leaders agreed to cooperate on a range of issues, including helping Syria rid itself of terrorists and extremists, condemning the use of chemical weapons by any party, and calling on the United Nations to investigate allegations that the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad has recently used chemical weapons.

At this conference, G-8 leaders also pledged nearly $1.5 billion in additional aid for humanitarian activities in this Middle Eastern country.

In the fight against tax evasion and fraud, G8 leaders agreed to adopt several new measures, including sharing information on individuals' tax payments and requiring multinational corporations to fully report to tax authorities on the types of taxes they pay and where they pay them.

The conference's joint statement called on countries to change regulations that allow multinational corporations to transfer profits to other countries in order to evade taxes or pay lower tax rates.
