Nghe An Blind Association celebrates 30th anniversary

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of July 17 in Vinh City, the Nghe An Association of the Blind held a ceremony to celebrate its 30th anniversary (July 17, 1985 - July 17, 2015), and set out directions and tasks for the following years.

Attending the ceremony were comrade Le Xuan Dai - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of departments, branches and 120 outstanding members from grassroots associations.

Along with the development of the Vietnam Blind Association, on July 17, 1985, the Nghe Tinh Blind Association was established. In 1991, after the separation of the province, the Association changed its name to the Nghe An Blind Association... After 30 years, the Nghe An Blind Association has grown and developed in both breadth and depth, becoming a large mass organization with nearly 2,700 members operating in 218 branches throughout the province. During its operation, the Association has organized hundreds of agricultural extension training classes, vocational training, and vocational training according to the motto of "hand-holding" to facilitate members and their families in economic development; established 15 production facilities focusing on making products such as toothpicks, brooms, incense, rattan and bamboo weaving; 11 traditional massage establishments, creating jobs for 453 workers. With the help of the association, many blind members have overcome their inferiority complex, integrated into the community and participated in effective economic activities, contributing to poverty reduction. Currently, the poverty rate of members of the Blind Association is 26.9%, a decrease of 3% compared to the period 2005 - 2010.

Cultural and educational work to care for the spiritual life of the blind is especially important to the Association. From the provincial level to the grassroots level, the Association has always paid attention to eliminating illiteracy, popularizing Braille (Bỏ rai), English, and applying information technology to its members. It can be said that bringing cultural light and gradually improving the knowledge of the blind is one of the great achievements that the Association has achieved in the past 30 years.

Comrade Le Xuan Dai - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to individuals who had made outstanding contributions to the development of the Association of the Blind in Nghe An province in the period 1985 - 2015.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its establishment, the Nghe An Blind Association also presented the "For the happiness of the blind" medal - a noble award of the Vietnam Blind Association to leaders of several agencies in the province.

On this occasion, the Association of the Blind in Nghe An province received the emulation flag from the Provincial People's Committee; and 3 individuals received certificates of merit for their contributions to the construction and development of the Association of the Blind in Nghe An province during the period 1985-2015. The Association also presented the "For the Happiness of the Blind" medal - a noble award of the Vietnam Association of the Blind to leaders of several agencies in the province.
