Vietnam Journalists Association outlines its tasks for 2014.
The National Conference on the Implementation of the 2014 Work Plan of the Vietnam Journalists Association, held in Quang Ninh (April 18th), assessed 10 years of implementing Directive 37-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee on continuing to enhance the role and quality of the Association's activities in the new era.

In his opening remarks at the Conference, the President of the Vietnam Journalists Association and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Thuan Huu, emphasized the message: "Enhancing the social responsibility, civic duty, and professional ethics of Vietnamese journalists in conjunction with studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh." The Conference was an opportunity to review and evaluate all aspects of activities in 2013, and to exchange and discuss ways to innovate activities and develop the Association to a level befitting its position as a political-social-professional organization, a common home for Vietnamese journalists.
In 2013, the Vietnam Journalists Association achieved many positive results in various aspects of its work. In its leadership and management, the Central Committee of the Association directed and monitored the various levels of the association in carrying out regular and extraordinary tasks to fulfill the mission of a political, social, and professional organization with a membership of over 20,000.
By the end of 2013, the country had 288 grassroots journalist associations, including 63 provincial and city associations; 19 federated branches; and 206 affiliated branches, with over 20,000 members. During the year, nearly 2,100 new members were admitted, a 23% increase compared to 2012 and the highest number of applications and admissions ever recorded.
The Central Committee of the Association directed its subordinate branches and organized a meeting to gather opinions on the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution, contributing many ideas on general areas, with a focus on social issues and matters related to journalism.
The various levels of the Association continue to effectively implement the Association's Plan 226/KH-HNBVN on promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's moral example.
Over the past 10 years since the implementation of Directive 37-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee on continuing to enhance the role and quality of the Vietnam Journalists Association in the new era, the activities of the Association at all levels have undergone positive changes with clear results. The Association at all levels has continuously innovated the content and form of its activities, gradually affirming its position and elevating its role within the political system, contributing actively and effectively to the country's renewal process as well as the development of Vietnamese journalism.
Professional work has been emphasized by all levels of the Association and has achieved many good results through the organization of various forms of professional activities such as workshops and seminars on news, photography, professional ethics, and sharing experiences in journalism.
In 2013, the Association's Journalism Training Center organized 74 training courses to improve the professional skills of over 2,100 participants, nearly double the number in 2012.
In addition, the quality of the 7th National Journalism Awards has improved, creating a positive impression on the public.
In 2014, the Vietnam Journalists Association focused on implementing several specific tasks, such as organizing a conference to summarize 10 years of implementing Directive 37-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee on continuing to enhance the role and quality of activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in the new era and other guiding documents of the Party and State to comprehensively promote the activities of all levels of the association.
Strengthen the direction, monitoring, inspection, and supervision of the activities of all levels of associations to effectively and fully implement work programs and plans, with a focus on implementing Directive 03 of the Politburo on studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, in conjunction with enhancing social responsibility, civic duty, and professional ethics of journalists.
Participate in advising and making recommendations to the Party and the State on building mechanisms and policies for the press, journalists, press agencies, and press management, so that the revolutionary press of Vietnam can continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of its operations.
Increase the number and quality of political and professional training courses, with particular emphasis on professional ethics education, and organize training sessions, workshops, and specialized courses to help members improve their skills, expertise, political acumen, ideology, ethics, and lifestyle.
Organize the 8th National Press Awards and the annual National Conference summarizing the Association's work effectively. Strengthen the planning, management, and training of Association leaders at all levels, and establish specific mechanisms to attract experienced, highly skilled professionals with expertise and management skills to work for the Association.
Implement foreign affairs work effectively according to plan, while strengthening and expanding relations with journalists' associations in the region and around the world.
Finalize the following projects: Project on political and professional training and association work for the period 2015-2020; Project on improving the quality of the National Journalism Award; Project on continuing to support the creation of high-quality journalistic works for the period 2016-2020; Project on the Vietnam Journalism Museum.
Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Thuan Huu requested delegates to contribute opinions on the key issues of the Conference, accurately assess the situation, propose important solutions that are practical and feasible, and successfully achieve the set goals and tasks.
