National conference on the fight to protect the northern border of the Fatherland
This morning (February 15), in Hanoi, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences chaired and coordinated with the Vietnam Historical Science Association to organize the national scientific conference "The fight to protect the northern border of the Fatherland - 40 years in review (1979-2019)".

(Baonghean.vn) - Major General Le Van Cuong - former Director of the Institute for Strategic Studies, Ministry of Public Security answered reporters of Nghe An Newspaper about the 1979 war to defend the Fatherland.
The workshop attracted the attention of many scientists and lecturers from prestigious research institutes and universities nationwide, especially with the participation of witnesses and former soldiers who participated in the fight to protect the northern border of the Fatherland.

60 reports presented at the Workshop focused on fundamental issues, affirming the historical truth and justice of Vietnam in the fight to protect the northern border of the Fatherland.
The delegates also expressed gratitude and honor to the compatriots and soldiers who fought and sacrificed to protect every inch of the Fatherland's border; promoted and educated the tradition of patriotism, national pride and deep gratitude to the generations of fathers and brothers who spared no effort in sacrificing their youth and blood to protect the independence, freedom, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.
Many reports also provide some theoretical and practical bases and historical lessons drawn from this struggle, contributing to educating the spirit of solidarity and determination to build a strong and prosperous country in the context of complex and unpredictable developments in the world and region.
The workshop also assessed and clarified the determination and efforts of the Party Committees and people of the border provinces in overcoming difficulties and consequences of war, competing to build and develop the socio-economy, ensure national defense and security, and improve people's lives, especially families of war invalids and martyrs and people with meritorious services to the country.

The workshop is also an opportunity to look back at the historical event that took place 40 years ago in an honest and objective manner, thereby strengthening solidarity and promoting friendly and cooperative relations for mutual development among countries and peoples in the world; at the same time, criticizing the wrongful, hostile manifestations of distortion and slander that take advantage of the Northern border event to incite and sabotage the Party and State, and divide the friendly relations between Vietnam and China.
The workshop contributed to affirming the consistent guidelines and policies of the Party and State of Vietnam in relations with China in the spirit of "putting aside the past and looking towards the future"; Vietnam's efforts in building friendly, cooperative, equal and mutually beneficial relations between Vietnam and China./.
