(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of August 2nd, in Cua Lo town, the Vietnam Journalists Association organized a seminar titled "Current Situation and Solutions to Improve the Quality of Photojournalism". Attending and directing the seminar were journalists Ha Minh Hue and Pham Quoc Toan, Vice Presidents of the Vietnam Journalists Association; and leaders from central and local press agencies in provinces and cities.
In his opening remarks at the workshop, journalist Ha Minh Hue, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, affirmed: Photojournalism in general and news photography in particular play a huge role, serving as a sharp propaganda weapon due to their authenticity, attractiveness, and persuasiveness. However, photojournalism today has not yet reached its rightful place, has not received the attention of those in charge at newspapers in terms of guidance and use; photographers have not yet captured golden moments that leave a lasting impression.
During the workshop, delegates highlighted the current challenges facing photojournalism, including the need for a clearer understanding of the role of photography in journalistic activities; creating a shift at all levels of associations and media organizations to attract more authors and photojournalists to participate in the National Photojournalism Award; the professionalism of photojournalists and editors who use photojournalism; copyright infringement; the responsibility of organizations using photos towards authors and journalistic works; and the responsibility of media organizations in training and developing photojournalism skills and professional ethics for their team of photojournalists and editors.
The workshop took place over two days, from August 2-3, 2013.
