Today announced the new subject program at high school level
After several "appointments", at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, December 27, the Ministry of Education and Training will hold a press conference to announce the curriculum of subjects in the new general education program.
The draft program was released on January 19 for comments and feedback.
The curriculum of subjects in the new general education program introduced by the Ministry of Education and Training will have many changes compared to the current program. Among them, there is a compulsory educational activity throughout all levels of education: Experiential activities.

Subjects under the new program will be divided into 2 categories:Compulsory subjects, activities and electives.
Specifically,at Primary levelCompulsory subjects include: Vietnamese, Math, Foreign Language 1, Lifestyle Education, Ethics, Nature and Society, History and Geography, Science, Information Technology and Technology, Physical Education, Art. Elective subjects are Ethnic Minority Language and Foreign Language 1 (for grades 1 and 2).
Thus, at this level of education, a new subject appears: Information Technology and Technology.
At secondary school level,Compulsory subjects: Literature, Math, Foreign Language 1, Civic Education, Natural Science, History and Geography, Information Technology, Technology, Physical Education, Art. Elective subjects: Ethnic minority languages, Foreign Language 2.
It is worth noting that at this level, Computer Science has become compulsory (unlike before when it was optional). In addition, the appearance of the subjects: History and Geography, Natural Sciences will make the way of organizing teaching different from before.
At high school level, compulsory subjects: Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language 1, Physical Education, National Defense and Security Education. Subjects to be selected: according to the Social Science group (including subjects of Economic and Legal Education, History, Geography), Natural Science group (including subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Technology and Arts group (including Technology, Information Technology, Arts). Elective subjects: Ethnic minority languages, Foreign Language 2.
Thus, in addition to the 5 compulsory subjects, students must choose at least 5 other subjects from the selected subject group.
It is worth noting at this level of education how to organize elective studies for students to ensure the set goals.
According to the report of the Ministry of Education and Training when explaining to the 14th National Assembly last November, the general education program this time will be reduced.
For example, in terms of duration, in the upcoming primary school level, students will study a program of 2,838 hours (the current program is 2,353 hours).
Looking at the increased number of hours, the "reduction in workload" is explained by: The new program is a 2-session/day program (9 sessions/week), on average students study 1.8 hours/class/session. The current program is a 1-session/day program (5 sessions/week), on average students study 2.7 hours/class/session.
In secondary school, students study 3,070 hours; a reduction of 54 hours compared to the current program.
In high school, students study 2,284 hours; a reduction of 262 hours compared to the current Basic Program; a reduction of 315 hours compared to the current Program A and Program C.
Previously, in July 2017, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a comprehensive general education program. The program sets out 5 qualities and 10 competencies that high school students need to achieve. These are: patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, and responsibility. The 10 competencies include: autonomy and self-study, communication and cooperation, problem solving and creativity, language skills, mathematics skills, science skills, technology skills, information technology skills, aesthetic skills, and physical skills.
The promulgated subject program will be the legal basis for groups of authors to write textbooks.
