Today the National Assembly held an extraordinary meeting to consider personnel work.

The National Assembly convened the 6th Extraordinary Session of the 15th tenure to consider and decide on personnel work within its authority.

Late on the afternoon of March 20, right after the meeting of the Party Central Committee to review and decide on personnel work, Secretary General of the 15th National Assembly Bui Van Cuong also issued a statement on the program of the 6th extraordinary session on the morning of March 21.

Pursuant to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Law on Organization of the National Assembly, and the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly decided to convene the 6th Extraordinary Session of the 15th National Assembly to consider and decide on personnel work under the authority of the National Assembly.

The 6th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly will take place on the morning of March 21 at the National Assembly House, Hanoi.

At the meeting on the afternoon of March 20, the Central Committee agreed to let Mr. Vo Van Thuong cease holding the positions of Politburo member, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council for the 2021-2026 term.

At the same time, the Central Committee also decided to expel from the Party Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Vinh Phuc province.

According to the Law on the Organization of the National Assembly, the position of President is elected by the National Assembly. Therefore, the National Assembly will carry out the procedure of removing this position so that Mr. Vo Van Thuong can no longer hold the position of President.

Regarding the case of Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan, on March 17, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued a Resolution agreeing to the request of the Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy to prosecute, temporarily detain, and search the residence and workplace of Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan, a National Assembly delegate of the 15th term, in accordance with the provisions of law.

At the same time, the National Assembly Standing Committee temporarily suspended the performance of duties and powers of a National Assembly deputy for Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Lan, a deputy of the 15th National Assembly, from the date of the decision to prosecute the accused.

According to Article 40 of the Law on Organization of the National Assembly, a National Assembly deputy who is no longer worthy of the people's trust shall be dismissed by the National Assembly or voters.

In case the National Assembly dismisses a National Assembly Delegate, this must be approved by at least two-thirds of the total number of National Assembly Delegates voting.

In case voters recall a National Assembly Deputy, the recall shall be conducted according to the procedures prescribed by the National Assembly Standing Committee.
