More than 1,200 passion fruit trees in the project area in Que Phong were cut down.

(Baonghean.vn) - A serious case of property destruction has just occurred in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district with more than 1,200 passion fruit trees being cut down.

The damaged enterprise is Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company with total damage up to 1 billion VND.

Up to now, Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company has been assigned 28 hectares to grow passion fruit out of the total 600 hectares of project land of the enterprise. Of those 28 hectares, the company has reserved 5 hectares for a high-tech passion fruit nursery in D1 village, Minh Chau, Tri Le commune, Que Phong district.

After only a few hours on the night of August 10, 2017, all 3 batches of passion fruit, which were more than 5 months old and ready for harvest, were severely damaged. Of these, batch 3 had its entire roots cut off, batch 1 was destroyed in half, and the experimental batch only had 3 roots left.

“On the night of August 9, the subjects threw rocks at the guard house and the incident happened on the night of August 10. At 2 a.m., I got up to check around and discovered that the fertilizer cover was missing. From then until morning, I checked continuously and in lot number 3, I found that the water pipe was missing. At the same time, I discovered that some lemon trees were cut down. I called the company to check and found that thousands of trees had been cut down,” said Mr. Lu Van Tong, security guard of Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company.

Through on-site inspection, the Company discovered that more than 1,200 passion fruit trees had been cut down, equivalent to 3 hectares of the nursery. In addition, the subjects also stole the entire irrigation pipe system.

It is worth mentioning that this is the 10th theft and property damage incident since the beginning of the year that has occurred at Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company, causing damage of up to 1.5 billion VND, of which the damage from the vandalism on the night of August 10, 2017 was worth nearly 1 billion VND.

Through discussion, people said that the underlying cause of this situation may stem from the compensation for 5 hectares of production land of the village that was confiscated from 2014 until now but has not been adequately compensated.

On the side of the representative of the leadership of Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company, they said that although they had sent two reports on March 9, 2017 and May 9, 2017, up to now the authorities at all levels have not had a thorough solution, leading to the situation of continued destruction of the company's property./.
