A serious incident occurred in Thach Ha district (Ha Tinh province) when four police officers on duty were surrounded and assaulted by local residents.

On April 10th, the Ha Tinh Provincial Police announced that they had successfully rescued four police officers who had been tied up and beaten by local residents while on duty.

Colonel Bui Dinh Quang, Deputy Director of the Ha Tinh Provincial Police, said that at 2 PM on April 10th, six police officers from Thach Ha were dispatched to execute an arrest warrant against a suspect named Truong, residing in Trung Son hamlet, Bac Son commune (Thach Ha district), for the crime of disturbing public order.

However, as soon as the arrest warrant was read, the suspect shouted and incited the villagers, claiming that the police were arresting him without cause.

Shortly afterwards, hundreds of residents from Trung Son hamlet gathered in front of Truong's house to protest. Seeing the officers still escorting Truong to the police station, some residents clashed with the police.

Despite clear explanations from the authorities, the villagers surrounded, detained, and beat four police officers who were on duty.

Upon receiving the report, the Ha Tinh Provincial Police Department directed the Riot Police Unit to coordinate with the Thach Ha Police to go to the scene to persuade the crowd and prevent violations of the law. However, the majority of the unruly people still refused to comply, causing the situation to become tense.

Immediately afterwards, authorities had to deploy over 100 officers to rescue the detained soldiers.

By 3:30 PM the same day, the four police officers had been successfully rescued and taken to Ha Tinh General Hospital for emergency treatment.

"During the rescue operation, many unruly residents used bricks, stones, and sticks to attack the authorities, injuring four riot police officers," Colonel Quang said.

According to VietNamNet's observations at the scene, in addition to assaulting and surrounding police officers, the people also attacked several reporters who were working there.

The Ha Tinh police are currently investigating the individuals involved in order to bring them to justice.
