Electronic warfare units and nuclear forces also participated in the live-fire drills in the South China Sea, according to a report posted on the Chinese Ministry of National Defense website, China Military Online (backed by the Chinese government), according to Reuters.

However, China Military Online did not specify where the exercise took place in the East Sea.

According to China Military Online, this exercise focuses on coordination between information warfare systems with air and naval forces, as well as testing combat readiness and testing the effectiveness of new military equipment and weapons.

The Chinese military has made “new progress” in this exercise, including locking on high-speed low-altitude targets, hunting submarines and intercepting anti-ship missiles and warships, China Military Online said.

The drills were conducted in a "complex electromagnetic environment" with the use of various types of missiles, torpedoes, artillery and bombs, the Chinese website said.

Previously, China announced annual military exercises in the area of its Hainan Island and Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago in the East Sea (from July 22 to 31), despite objections from Vietnam./.
