A total of 227,814 Mazda6 and Mazda3 vehicles are being recalled due to a faulty handbrake system.

Mazda3s from 2014 to 2016 and Mazda6s from 2014 to 2015 are at risk of having a faulty parking brake system. According to the recall notice, the parking brake on these vehicles may activate while the vehicle is moving or slip while the vehicle is parked, especially when parked on an incline.

According to Mazda, the design of this part is not really optimal, allowing water to get inside the brake caliper.

Meanwhile, Automotive News reports that Mazda first encountered a brake problem in 2015, when a Canadian customer complained about the car skidding while driving. In 2016, a German customer reported a parking accident due to a faulty parking brake.

In the US, Mazda has been notified of 13 cases related to this defect and fortunately no casualties have occurred.

Mazda is not a very prominent brand in the US. From the beginning of the year to the end of May 2017, the Japanese car company sold about 120,000 cars, accounting for 1.7% of the market share. This sales figure is lower than other Japanese car companies in the US and even behind Korean cars./.
