More than 250,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles have brake failure
Harley-Davidson has just announced a global recall of 251,000 vehicles due to brake defects, including 175,000 in the US.
According to Harley-Davidson, the models recalled this time are mainly CVO Touring and VSRC models equipped with ABS, manufactured from 2008 to 2011.
The recall notice in the US clearly states that the cause of the defect may be from deposits on brake system components if the brake fluid is not changed within 2 years according to the manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
While this error can be caused by the user not following the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations, sudden brake failure without warning is also a cause for concern.
In July 2016, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating the defect after receiving 43 complaints from users. And according to official reports, there have been 3 accidents and 2 injuries related to the brake defect of these models.
Harley-Davidson will contact owners of the above mentioned models starting February 12 to offer them a free brake system flush and brake fluid replacement.
