Over 300 diplomatic and foreign license plates have been revoked.
During a comprehensive inspection and handling of vehicles with diplomatic license plates, the Traffic Police Department discovered 317 vehicles with license plates starting with 80 (NG, NN, QT) that did not comply with regulations, had expired registration certificates, and were subject to revocation.
According to the Traffic Police Department, after more than a month of cracking down on vehicles with diplomatic, foreign, and international license plates (NG, NN, QT), traffic police, in coordination with other forces, have identified 317 vehicles with license plates starting with 80 that do not comply with regulations. The majority of these vehicles have expired registration certificates and have not completed the renewal or revocation procedures as required by law.

The Department of Road and Rail Traffic Police also advises that those using vehicles with diplomatic or foreign license plates for improper purposes should go to registration points to return the license plates, pay taxes, and re-register. If they fail to re-register within the deadline, the license plates will be confiscated according to the law.
Previously, on June 20th, the Department of Road and Rail Traffic Police established task forces to conduct regular and surprise patrols and inspections on routes and areas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City targeting vehicles with diplomatic license plates or foreign license plates that were being used improperly.
In Hanoi alone, prior to the crackdown, there were 508 vehicles subject to registration and license plate revocation. However, after receiving the notification, most vehicle owners went to the registration points to re-complete the procedures for revocation of registration and license plates in accordance with regulations.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Security, there are currently about 4,000 diplomatic vehicles imported nationwide from 1998 to the end of August 2009, of which thousands have not completed the transfer procedures or have been transferred but have not paid taxes. The situation where buyers of expensive cars with NN or NG license plates do not transfer ownership and continue to use the vehicles beyond the permitted time... results in significant tax revenue losses for the State.
