Accordingly, there will be 3,539 Mitsubishi Triton/L200 (Model KA0T) and Mitsubishi Triton/L200 (Model KB0T) vehicles manufactured from 2009 to 2015 included in this recall to replace the driver's front airbag inflator.
Airbags are equipped on vehicles to minimize the risk of accidents involving people or minimize injuries to the head, neck, chest and face of the driver when the vehicle is in a frontal collision. When a collision is strong enough, the collision sensor sends a signal to the airbag control unit. The controller will evaluate the level of the collision and other factors to activate the airbag. The airbag inflator receives the signal and will activate to generate gas to create an airbag, preventing some parts of the human body from directly colliding with the vehicle's hardware, then the airbag will automatically deflate so as not to trap the driver.
However, in some cases, at the time the airbag is activated in a collision, the airbag inflator creates too much pressure, causing the airbag shell or small parts to break and shoot out, injuring the driver and making the airbag ineffective.
Information from the Registry Department said that Mitsubishi Vietnam's recall campaign will officially start from September 15, 2016 and last until September 14, 2017.
Vehicles that have their airbag inflators replaced at authorized dealers will have their affected vehicles inspected and repaired free of charge within 0.5 hours per vehicle.
