In 2017, overcoming difficulties, Nghe An province has achieved important results in socio-economic development and poverty reduction. Accordingly, the economic growth rate reached 8.25%; budget revenue reached over 12,465 billion VND; completed 27/27 set targets. Along with progress in socio-economic fields, the poverty rate decreased from 9.55% in 2016 to 7.54% at the end of 2017.

However, Nghe An, with its large mountainous area, still has 65,435 poor households. The lives of the people, especially those in mountainous areas, border areas, and coastal areas, are still facing many difficulties and need attention and help, especially during the Lunar New Year 2018.

Responding to the appeal letter and launching the "Tet for the poor" campaign of Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh, as of 9:00 p.m. on January 26, 2018, 294 groups and individuals have donated more than 60.2 billion VND. On behalf of the provincial leaders, comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee respectfully thanked the noble gestures and kind hearts over the past time who have made positive contributions to the province's hunger eradication and poverty reduction work; at the same time, joined hands to make the success of the "Tet for the poor" program in the past years and this year.

At the ceremony, provincial leaders awarded certificates of merit to 16 groups and individuals who have made the most contributions to social security work in recent times. At the same time, they received support from groups and individuals for the program "Tet for the poor - Mau Tuat 2018".
