The island has a road that appears and disappears in Vung Tau.

Located about 200m from Nghinh Phong Cape and the foot of Nho Mountain, Hon Ba Island (part of the Back Beach area, Vung Tau City) is a popular destination thanks to its pristine beauty and spiritual and historical value.

On the island, there is a temple of the same name, which attracts many locals and tourists from all over to offer incense and perform rituals on the full moon days of the first, fourth, seventh, and tenth months of the lunar calendar.

According to legend, Hon Ba Temple was built in the 19th century to worship the Water Dragon Goddess – who plays a role in regulating the climate, helping fishermen to work peacefully and have successful fishing trips. Therefore, the temple is also known as the Lady Temple.

The worship facilities within the temple have been renovated, upgraded, and beautified numerous times, becoming a spacious place of worship that meets the religious needs of local people and tourists.

Thanks to its unique geographical location, situated halfway up a small island, Hon Ba Temple is also listed among the temples with the most special locations in Vietnam.

Besides attracting pilgrims and worshippers to the temple, Hon Ba Island is also special because of the hidden stone path under the sea, connecting the island to the mainland, which only appears when the tide is low.

Tourists must time their visit carefully, monitoring the tide levels daily to know when the water recedes. Especially on the 15th and 16th of each lunar month, the sea level is at its lowest, creating favorable conditions for tourists to experience walking along this path.

However, the path is quite slippery, full of pebbles and oyster shells, so visitors need to choose appropriate footwear for comfortable movement and to avoid injury.

During high tide, visitors can rent boats or motorboats to travel to the island. However, it's not possible to go directly from the mainland to the island; instead, you have to circle around out at sea and then dock on the eastern side.

According to the website of the Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Center of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, Hon Ba Temple is located at an altitude of approximately 4 meters above sea level. Beneath it are preserved historical war relics, including a 6-meter-long, 3-meter-wide basement – ​​formerly a place where secret revolutionary meetings were held.

Each year, Hon Ba Temple holds four ceremonies, based on the tides, in January, April, July, and October (lunar calendar). Annually, on the 16th day of the 10th lunar month, the Thang Tam Temple Management Board organizes a ceremony to welcome the Goddess from Hon Ba Temple and the Ngu Hanh Temple for the ritual.

Mr. Le Quang Duong, Deputy Head of the Thang Tam Temple Relic Management Board - the unit in charge of managing the rituals at Hon Ba Temple - said that the leaders of Vung Tau City have met with the Thang Tam Temple Management Board to discuss the plan to build a bridge to Hon Ba to facilitate access for both locals and tourists to Hon Ba.

However, the unique path leading to Hon Ba will remain unchanged, ensuring the natural beauty of this destination is preserved.
