More than half a billion VND to build the Quynh Luu dried squid brand

(Baonghean.vn) - With the goal of developing the business of "dried squid" products in a sustainable way, Quynh Luu district is building a project to manage the collective brand of Quynh Luu dried squid.

Quynh Luu dried squid has been exported to China, Laos, and Korea.

With a coastline of 19.5 km (accounting for 21.7% of Nghe An's coastline), there are two large estuaries, Cua Thoi and Cua Quen, which are favorable conditions for Quynh Luu to develop its marine economy. The annual catch reaches approximately 49,000 tons of aquatic products, the largest in the province, of which the annual squid catch reaches 3,400 tons to 3,500 tons.

Quynh Luu dried squid is produced on fishing boats with 2 or 4 poles of fishing nets combined with hooks, or on boats specializing in squid fishing from the offshore waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. Currently, in the district, there are 15 large households and dozens of households processing dried seafood, including one-sun dried squid. During the season, each household processes an average of 50 quintals of dried squid per month.

Squid is made from fresh squid caught from the sea.

However, the current processing of dried squid mainly relies on sun drying, so the product quality is not really uniform and stable. In addition, the processing of dried squid on the spot makes the production and business of squid products not highly economically efficient and lacks conditions to expand production development, expand consumption markets, increase product value and increase income for people.

Faced with that situation, the Quynh Luu District Agricultural Extension Center has developed a project to manage the collective brand name Quynh Luu Dried Squid, with a project implementation period of 18 months. The estimated cost of the project is nearly 543 million VND.

The project's objective is to develop the business of "Quynh Luu dried squid" products in a sustainable manner through building a collective brand to improve economic efficiency for organizations and individuals participating in the exploitation, purchase, processing, preservation and consumption of Quynh Luu dried squid products, contributing to the development of the marine economy of coastal areas.
