Honda City 2017 adds hybrid version, competes with Toyota Vios

Honda City's hybrid engine has a fuel consumption of 3.9 liters/100 km.

The Japanese automaker in Malaysia has launched the City Hybrid version at a price of $20,800. The Southeast Asian country is the first market outside of Japan to receive the hybrid variant of the B-class sedan.

The City Hybrid's engine is similar to the Jazz Hybrid hatchback in Malaysia, combining a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC and an electric motor, for a total output of 137 horsepower and a maximum torque of 170 Nm. 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine has a temporary shut-off function when the car stops for a long time.

According to the manufacturer, the above engine has the same performance as the 1.8 liter naturally aspirated type, but the fuel economy is slightly better, 4 liters/100 km when used for Jazz Hybrid and 3.9 liters/100 km when installed on City Hybrid.

The exterior design of the Hybrid version is similar to the upgraded Honda City version launched in March 2017 in Malaysia but with some minor adjustments. The car is equipped with 16-inch wheels, shark fin antenna, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, air-conditioning vents for the rear seats. Luggage compartment capacity is 536 liters.

The exterior design of the Hybrid version is quite similar to the City 2017.

The 2017 Honda City Hybrid comes in three exterior color options: white, silver, and metallic gray. The car is assembled in CKD form in Malaysia and is expected to be available in the local market in mid-August 2017. Its main competitor, the Toyota Vios, does not yet have a Hybrid version.

In Vietnam, Honda has not distributed the Hybrid version of the City. The small sedan is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, 118 horsepower, priced from 533 million VND, competing with the Toyota Vios, which has a similar engine capacity, 107 horsepower, priced from 564 million VND.
