The new generation Honda CR-V equipped with a third row of seats, launched at the Bangkok Motor Show 2017 taking place on March 29, is a threat to the Hyundai SantaFe, which is currently very popular in Vietnam.

The 2017 Honda CR-V in Thailand has a similar design to the one in the US.

Previously, the 2017 Honda CR-V launched last year in the US only had a 5-seat version. Thus, Thailand will be the first market in the world to welcome the 7-seat Honda CR-V. The Honda CR-V will move closer to the position that Hyundai SantaFe and KIA Sorento are dominating, and at the same time be a "threat" to rivals Nissan X-Trail or Mitsubishi Outlander, which also have 5+2 seating designs.

In addition, Honda also emphasized that the 2017 CR-V in Thailand is equipped with a new 1.6-liter, turbocharged, 4-cylinder i-DTEC diesel engine. This engine has never been equipped on the 2017 Honda CR-V in the US market.

Photos of the 2017 Honda CR-V with 7 seats have been released by the Japanese car company.

It is likely that the Japanese automaker will also introduce a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine version with a maximum capacity of 184 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 244 Nm at 3,900 rpm. This engine has appeared on the current generation CR-V model.

The 2017 Honda CR-V in Thailand is also equipped with modern LED headlights, integrated daytime running lights, and L-shaped rear taillights that also use LED technology. In addition, the car is also equipped with a hands-free electric trunk door and a 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, supporting Apple CarPlay/Android Auto applications.

The longer body design is the basis for Honda to "stuff" an additional 3rd row of seats into the CR-V.

In the US, the 2017 Honda CR-V is equipped with Honda Sensing support features such as collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, lane departure mitigation, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. It is unclear whether the Thai market will receive the Honda CR-V model equipped with the above full safety system or not.

Detailed information about the 2017 CR-V will be announced by Honda at the 2017 Bangkok Motor Show taking place on March 29.
