(Baonghean.vn) - On May 9th, in Hanoi, the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts held a press conference for the international scientific conference "Preserving and Promoting the Value of Folk Songs in Contemporary Society (the case of Nghe Tinh folk songs)". Professor, Dr. Nguyen Chi Ben - Director of the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts - chaired the press conference.
On the Nghe An side, Comrade Pham Tien Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Ngoc At - Director of the Center for Preservation and Promotion of Nghe An Folk Song Heritage, and representatives from specialized agencies of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism attended.

The press conference provided information and introduced the purpose, main content, and new features of the international scientific conference on the preservation and promotion of the value of Nghe Tinh folk songs (Vi and Giam), which is scheduled to be held from May 14-15, 2014 in Vinh City, Nghe An Province.

Professor, Dr. Nguyen Chi Ben stated: The organizing committee has received 83 scientific papers for the conference, including 17 papers from scholars from countries and territories such as Russia, Japan, China, Belgium, Laos, France, Uganda, Switzerland, the United States, Indonesia, and Taiwan. In addition to presenting their papers, scientists, cultural and artistic researchers, and speakers will directly attend performances and learn about the teaching of Nghe An folk songs at the Ngoc Son Club (Thanh Chuong, Nghe An) and Phu Viet Club (Thach Ha, Ha Tinh).

The organization of the International Scientific Conference in mid-May this year in Nghe An aims to create an opportunity for international scholars to focus on identifying and better evaluating the value of the Vi and Giam folk songs. The conference will be a chance to hear the experiences of scholars and cultural managers on the preservation and management of international and domestic heritage, serving to develop an action plan for preserving and promoting the value of Nghe Tinh's Vi and Giam folk songs in contemporary society. It will also be an opportunity to introduce and promote the value of Nghe An's Vi and Giam folk songs to the international community.
