Cooperation in tourism development in Nghe An and the Mekong Delta provinces
(Baonghean.vn) - Despite its rich potential and advantages, the connection between Nghe An tourism and the western provinces of the Mekong Delta has been limited. The number of visitors from these river provinces to the homeland of President Ho Chi Minh has not met expectations.
This is the opinion raised by many delegates at the seminar on cooperation in tourism development among Nghe An - An Giang - Can Tho - Kien Giang - Ca Mau - Bac Lieu - Soc Trang - Hau Giang, which took place on the afternoon of June 20, in Cua Lo town.
Attending the program were representatives of the Department of Tourism, Nghe An Province Tourism Association; Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of 7 provinces and Mekong Delta Tourism Association.

The provinces in the western part of the Mekong Delta are not unfamiliar markets to Nghe An travel agencies. Over 20 years ago, Nghe An travel agencies brought hundreds of tourist groups to the southwestern provinces each year.
According to the units’ assessment, over time, the transport infrastructure, tourism services… in the Mekong Delta provinces have been increasingly improved, better meeting the needs of tourists. However, in reality, there are still some problems that have been mentioned and discussed by travel agencies to find solutions.
Mr. Ta Khac Uyen - Vice President of Nghe An Tourism Association said that the provinces in the western cluster of the Mekong Delta have many similarities in terms of potential and advantages.
“Apart from special locations such as Ca Mau, Phu Quoc, Kien Giang… other localities are quite similar, every locality has river tours, traditional music… Therefore, when building tours to sell to customers, there is still feedback that there is duplication”. From this reality, Mr. Uyen hopes that the provinces of the Western Mekong Delta will coordinate to build more unique and attractive tours.
Regarding the issue of bringing tourists from the Mekong Delta provinces to Nghe An province, delegates frankly acknowledged that there are still many limitations. Mr. Le Minh Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho said that Nghe An's tourism potential is huge and hopes that through this discussion and signing, the coordination programs will "get off the desk" and come into reality.
Mr. Son suggested that leaders of Nghe An Tourism Department could research and advise on opening a flight route from Can Tho to Vinh City to create convenient traffic connections. In addition, they should identify special tours and routes with highlights, along with discount programs to attract tourists.
