Coach Mai Duc Chung: 'This is a time of force transfer, so the Vietnamese women's team has not played well'
(Baonghean.vn) - Although rated higher than Nepal, the Vietnamese women's team only won 2-0 on the opening day of the 19th Asian Games women's football event. After the match, coach Mai Duc Chung explained the reason.
The Vietnamese women's team entered the opening match of the 2023 ASIAD against weak opponent Nepal. Although they were rated much higher than Nepal, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team encountered many difficulties when the opponent team played with a low formation and defended with a large number of players.
Sharing at the post-match press conference, coach Mai Duc Chung admitted that he was still not satisfied with his players' performance: "Although we won against Nepal, I am not satisfied. Of course, compared to the two matches that the Vietnamese Women's Team played against Nepal in April, they have improved a lot so far.

We had a hard time in the first half when the opponent defended tightly. Nepal improved a lot, marking well so we could not exploit the opponent's weaknesses. In the second half, we used players with good technique and speed like Thanh Nha and Van Su to create breakthroughs in the gameplay. In fact, we played better, breaking the tactical system of the Nepal Women's Team.

The Vietnamese women's team is missing many key players at ASIAD 2023 such as Huynh Nhu, Chuong Thi Kieu, My Anh. The replacement is Thuy Hang, who is still young and has not met the requirements. We are in the generational transition phase, and gradually the young players will improve. The Vietnamese team does not always have the best players. I just hope that the young players will quickly show their best form and replace their seniors," the captain of the Vietnamese women's team emphasized.
Evaluating the group at ASIAD 19, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "I think in this group, the strongest is still Japan and then the remaining 3 teams. The Vietnamese team must strive for each match when the opponents have improved, cannot be underestimated. The Vietnamese team will have to prepare very well."
Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will have two more matches against Bangladesh and Japan. The match against Japan is considered very difficult. However, if they win another victory against Bangladesh, the Vietnamese women's team's chances of advancing are very high./.
