Raising quails at his farmHo Thanh Chuong, Khanh Hau hamlet, Hung Hoa commune |
In previous years, Hung Hoa people mainly raised ducks, fish and shrimp. However, in recent years, Hung Hoa people have diversified their livestock to better serve the market in the city center. Compared to the unstable rice production of two crops a year, mixed livestock farms bring economic value 5-10 times higher. Currently, some farms have started to raise quail, pigeons, wild boars, and mallards on a trial basis...
Contracting 5 hectares of ponds and lakes, Mr. Ho Thanh Chuong, Khanh Hau hamlet, Hung Hoa commune, planned ponds and barns to raise fish combined with raising hundreds of pigs, 2,000 laying ducks and 20,000 laying quails. To stabilize the output of quail and duck eggs, Mr. Chuong invested in buying 2 quail egg incubators and 3 duck egg incubators.
All duck and quail eggs are put into an incubator to sell as balut eggs, so every day Mr. Chuong earns more than 1 million VND from raising quail and laying ducks. Every year, he harvests 7-8 tons of commercial fish and sells dozens of tons of pork.
Last April, Mr. Chuong sold 50 pigs, earning a profit of more than 40 million VND. All products from fish, pigs, birds... also bring Mr. Chuong a revenue of more than 1 billion VND each year.

Mr. Duong Van Bien and Mr. Duong Van Thang's farm currently raises 3,000 ducks. Every day, they sell 100 ducks for meat to the market for 150,000 VND, after deducting expenses, they still make a profit of 5 million VND. "I have more than 100 ducks, and every day, 100 eggs are incubated for breeding. Every day, there are ducks hatching to raise, so there are always ducks for meat to supply to the market," said Mr. Thang.
Thanks to the diversification of livestock, the integrated farms in Hung Hoa have all been effective. From 69 hectares of ponds and lakes, each year the integrated farms in Hung Hoa have produced and supplied the market with 140 tons of commercial fish. The total herd of pigs reached 7,000; the herd of laying ducks reached 49,000.
Along with the development of duck breeding, many households have invested in opening incubators to sell balut eggs. Currently, in the commune, there are 11 households with balut egg incubators, supplying the market with more than 20,000 balut eggs every day.
