The Premier League has just confirmed that Anthony Taylor will be the main referee for the 7th round match between Chelsea and Liverpool. This information has made many Chelsea fans fed up because this referee is considered the "evil spirit" of The Blue.
The last time Mr. Taylor officiated a Chelsea match was against Tottenham in August 2022. In that match, the 44-year-old referee made a series of controversial decisions, notably ignoring Romero's foul on Havertz that led to Tottenham's first goal, then not penalizing the defender for pulling Cucurella's hair (Romero had previously received a yellow card).
After this match, coach Thomas Tuchel was so angry that he declared that the Premier League should not let referee Taylor officiate any more Chelsea matches. Of course, the German strategist's wish was not approved, he was also fined 20,000 pounds.
In the two matches between Chelsea and Liverpool in the Premier League last season, Mr. Taylor was the starting referee and made decisions that put Chelsea at a disadvantage.
In the first leg at Anfield, the referee showed Reece James a straight red card for handball and awarded Liverpool a penalty. From a lead, Chelsea were held back and could only defend for the entire second half. Fortunately, they did not concede another goal.
In the return match at Stamford Bridge, Taylor was also criticized for not showing a red card after Mane elbowed Azpilicueta. In this match, the two teams drew 2-2.
The upcoming match between Chelsea and Liverpool is of great significance for both teams' top 4 goals this season. Chelsea and Liverpool are currently 11 and 7 points behind Tottenham in 7th place, respectively. The team that loses this match will most likely not be able to enter the Champions League group next season./.
