Hungary believes Donald Trump and the EU can end the Ukraine conflict within 24 hours
According to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the EU's strategy on Ukraine has failed even from a tactical point of view.
Russian news agency TASS reported on June 4 that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Donald Trump, the potential candidate of the Republican Party in the US presidential election, and the European Union could put an end to the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours.
"If Trump and the EU want to end the war in Ukraine, they can do it in 24 hours. We must not forget that war is waged by people and it is these people who, if they are willing, have every chance to make peace. I think that if Trump becomes president, he can achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine in one day and then start negotiations," the Hungarian prime minister told Il Giornale newspaper.
According to Mr Orban, the EU's strategy on Ukraine has failed even from a tactical point of view. "We do not understand that we are playing with fire. We should ask ourselves what Europe's strategic interests are and demand a ceasefire. Our citizens want peace, not war, which can be a political game," Mr Orban added.
The prime minister said he expected a new right-wing majority to emerge in the European Parliament after elections scheduled for June 8-9.
“The current European Commission has failed on agriculture, conflicts, migration, the economy and now its leadership must go. Strengthening democracy means electing a new commission, different from the current one – the worst in my memory,” said Prime Minister Orban.
At the same time, he hinted that it largely depends on the decision of his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the European conservatives, and Marine Le Pen, the leader of the parliamentary group of the French National Rally party.
“The right-wing parties must cooperate, we are in the hands of two women with whom they must come to an agreement,” the Hungarian Prime Minister concluded.
