Huong Giang Idol competes in Miss International Transgender 2018

Recently, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh - Acting Director of the Department of Performing Arts - gave feedback on Huong Giang Idol's participation in the Miss International Transgender 2018 contest. He said that Vietnam's law has not reached out and does not have the authority to grant permission for transgender people to participate in the Miss contest. However, the Department highly appreciates the spirit of the female singer. "Assuming Huong Giang submits a license application, we are still responsible for responding to her. Of course, the Department's stance is to always provide full support. We also hope that the public will have a positive view and support her."

A representative of the Department of Performing Arts added: “Currently, licensing individuals to participate in Miss International Transgender pageants has not yet been regulated in legal documents. Vietnamese culture is relatively open, with sex education and gender disclosure, but cultural activities, specifically decrees on licensing them to participate in beauty pageants, are not yet available. The decree does not mention it, meaning it is not prohibited.”

Previously, when Huong Giang Idol announced that she would represent Vietnam at the transgender beauty pageant in Thailand next February, public opinion was very supportive, but at the same time, there was also a question of whether she had participated illegally or not. At that time, Huong Giang frankly said that her side had proactively worked with the competent authorities, although they did not have a specific answer, they showed a very cooperative spirit.

Huong Giang confided:"Some people go to the competition with the mindset of having nothing to lose, so they feel very comfortable. But for me, this is a risk and a trade-off. If I come back empty-handed, I don't know how I will face everything. However, I think that perhaps the fact that I dare to compete is more important than anything else. If I don't compete this year, they won't invite Vietnam in the following years and won't open up opportunities for those who come after."

Huong Giang was born in 1991 in Hanoi, she is 1.70m tall, weighs 52kg with measurements of 86-62-90. Huong Giang changed gender after graduating from high school. She became known when she participated in the 2012 Music Idol contest. After the contest, although she only stopped at the top 4, Huong Giang had a wide-open singing career. She is quite in demand for singing shows, attending events and participating in game shows. Huong Giang is considered one of the most beautiful transgender people in Vietnam.

On February 25, Huong Giang will travel to Thailand to meet with the organizers and contestants in Pattaya. The contest will start on February 25 and the final will take place on March 9, broadcast live on one of the two largest TV channels in Thailand. There will be all the same activities as Miss Universe, including charity work, talent competitions, sports, national costumes... and the winner will also do all the duties like a normal Miss.

Miss International Queen is the largest beauty pageant for transgender beauties around the world, held annually in Thailand. In 2016, the contest was held in Pattaya, Thailand. Surpassing 24 international representatives, the host country's beauty Jiratchaya Sirimongkolnawin was crowned.

Currently, Miss International Queen 2018 has started with the first activity of sharing the images of 28 contestants on the official Fanpage. The contestant whose image has the highest interaction will receive a medal from the organizing committee and Huong Giang is leading in this part.
