Anh Son district moves livestock farms away from residential areas

(Baonghean.vn) - To gradually eliminate small-scale farming methods and move to industrial and bio-safety farms, Anh Son district has solutions to build concentrated farming areas far from residential areas. This approach has opened the way for people to develop large-scale farming, disease safety and increased production efficiency.

Previously, due to customs and habits, people in Vinh Son commune often raised livestock and poultry within their family premises for convenience, so most of the waste was not treated and discharged directly into ponds, lakes, and canals, causing environmental pollution, disease outbreaks, and low farming efficiency...

When implementing the new rural construction program, including planning and building concentrated livestock areas far from residential areas, the above situation has been resolved.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Ngoc in village 1, Vinh Son commune is one of the pioneers in building a VAC farm in the commune's concentrated planning area in Cua Dinh field. Currently, on the 1.3 ha of land auctioned, he raises 100 pigs, 11 buffaloes and cows and digs more than 3 sao of ponds for fish. Not only does it provide a stable income, but most importantly, his farm ensures environmental hygiene.

“Although livestock farming in residential areas has applied measures to clean the barns, the stench has not decreased. Therefore, when the commune had a policy to build a concentrated livestock farm, I registered to bid for land... To build a biosafety livestock farm, I invested more than 600 million VND to plan a closed system. Waste is collected and flows into a filter tank system and biogas tank before being discharged into the environment. Water in the final settling tank is used to irrigate the orchard. Thanks to that, the surrounding air does not have a stench,” said Mr. Cuong.

In 2015, Vinh Son commune planned a concentrated livestock area in Ong Thuong and Cua Dinh fields with an area of 10 hectares for large livestock households to bid. After more than 1 year of implementation, 5 farms and households in the area have moved to a concentrated livestock area with an area of nearly 6 hectares. Mr. Phan Ba Khanh - Vice Chairman of Vinh Son Commune People's Committee said: "To encourage livestock households, the commune has secured a bank loan for each household of 100 million VND per year without interest; the district also supported 30 million VND to build a road to the concentrated livestock area".

For many years, people in Hoa Son commune have invested in raising livestock and poultry, thanks to which many families have escaped poverty and stabilized their lives. However, due to the small land area, investment in waste treatment facilities has not received due attention, so most of the waste sources have not been treated, affecting people's lives.

To develop livestock farming in an industrial and biosafety direction, in 2015, the commune built a project to develop livestock farming associated with environmental protection for the period 2015-2020. Accordingly, the commune surveyed and reclaimed land previously allocated to households for ineffective production and planned it into a concentrated livestock farming area far from residential areas. Up to now, the whole commune has 7 livestock farms combining fruit tree planting in the planning area, implementing the process of building barns to ensure environmental hygiene.

Building concentrated livestock farming areas in localities has created conditions for households to develop their economy together, learn and exchange experiences with each other, reduce costs in livestock farming and increase competitiveness (importing breeds, feed, and materials together will lower product costs; large, concentrated sales quantities also limit the situation of being forced down by traders).

At the same time, it facilitates the control and containment of epidemics. This has contributed to the development of the district's economy, with an economic growth rate of 12.37% in 2016; the poverty rate decreased from 15.3% in 2015 to 10.6% in 2016. The entire Anh Son district currently has 23 large farms, 286 livestock farms with a total herd of 17,796 buffaloes, 19,997 cows, 60,301 pigs...; in 2016, the total output was 9,981 tons, reaching 101.9% of the plan.
