Huyen Nhu asked the court to return the 43 billion VND villa in Quang Nam to her mother, but in reality, she had already mortgaged the property to borrow money.

On December 23, the trial of Huynh Thi Huyen Nhu and her accomplices continued with the questioning of several individuals with relevant rights and obligations to address appeals regarding the civil aspects of the case. Among them, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lang – Huyen Nhu's mother – appealed, requesting the court to consider returning her villa, valued at 43 billion VND, located in The Nam Hai project in Quang Nam.

As mentioned, the villa that is being reclaimed for the mother had previously been mortgaged to borrow money.

However, when invited to testify, Ms. Lang was absent, even though she had regularly attended the trial in the preceding days. Responding to the court, Nhu stated that she still maintained her request to "reclaim" the property. The defendant also admitted to mortgaging all the documents related to the villa to Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Nga (residing in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) to borrow money.

This woman was one of those who lent Nhu a large sum of money at high interest rates but had not yet been prosecuted. Subsequently, the first-instance court recommended that the investigating agency initiate criminal proceedings against her for the crime of usury.

Responding to the judge's question about why she was requesting the property back after it had already been mortgaged, Nhu stated that "it was only mortgaged, not sold." Meanwhile, Ms. Nga's representative argued that Nhu had used the house as collateral for previous loans and requested the court to auction the house to compensate for damages.

During this morning's session, the court also questioned several individuals related to the assets seized and confiscated in the case. Before concluding the questioning, presiding judge Quang Duc Tuyen requested Navibank to provide evidence of loan agreements for employees to deposit money at Vietinbank to earn interest, as presented in previous days' questioning. However, Navibank stated that the events occurred a long time ago, making it difficult to obtain the necessary documents.

Responding to the court, Mr. Doan Dang Luat - former Head of Capital Resources Department at Navibank - stated that Navibank employees deposited money into Vietinbank's Nha Be branch to earn interest, as decided by Navibank's leadership.

This person denied receiving the 9.4 billion VND in extra-contractual interest from Huyen Nhu and claimed that this was money paid by Vo Anh Tuan (former deputy director of Vietinbank's Nha Be branch) to Navibank from a capital mobilization contract.

When summoned for questioning, defendant Tuan denied this statement and claimed he was unaware of the extra-contractual interest. Meanwhile, Nhu asserted that this was her own money used to pay extra interest to Navibank officials and that she had repeatedly given it to Tran Thi To Quyen (Nhu's employee) to deliver to Luat.

The debate will begin on December 24th.
