The tennis legend, who won six Grand Slams, has been unable to pay his bank debts since 2015.

Becker was not present at Wednesday's hearing, which lasted 30 minutes before the Companies and Insolvency Court in London declared him insolvent. Becker has been unable to repay the debt since 2015. The exact amount was not mentioned, other than "substantial."

The villa in Mallorca was Becker's last remaining asset, but the court still declared him bankrupt.

Becker's lawyer, John Briggs, argued that his client could repay the debt if he sold his nine-bedroom villa in Mallorca, Spain. Briggs claimed the property was worth approximately $6.7 million and that his client could repay the debt in the UK.

However, the bank rejected this argument because it said "the evidence is unreliable and cannot be realized".

Becker coached Novak Djokovic from 2013 until the end of last year. He is now a commentator for several tennis tournaments, most recently at Roland Garros.

Coaching Djokovic and being a TV commentator are some of Becker's recent income-generating jobs.

Becker's nine-bedroom Mallorca mansion was once seized by the Spanish government, but Becker repossessed it after paying off his debts. In 2002, Becker was convicted by a German court of evading $1.9 million in taxes.

Becker's attorney argued that his client was "unskilled in financial matters."
