Tuong Duong district organizes the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in 2024

Attending the congress were 120 official delegates, who are typical and outstanding representatives of more than 72,000 ethnic minorities in Tuong Duong district.

The Congress of Ethnic Minorities is an important political and social event, aiming to affirm the Party and State's concern for ethnic minorities; to recognize the great contributions of ethnic minorities to the development of their homeland. Thereby, to honor and reward outstanding collectives and individuals with many achievements contributing to the development of ethnic minority areas of Tuong Duong district in the period of 2019 - 2024.

Tuong Duong district has 18,846 households, with 79,930 people, of which 16,898 households, 72,374 people are ethnic minorities, accounting for 89.7% of households, 90.6% of people. The district has 6 ethnic groups with large populations: Thai 55,941 people, accounting for 70%; Kho Mu 10,772 people, accounting for 13.5%; Mong 4,264 people, accounting for 5.3%; Tho (Pong) 866 people, accounting for 1%; O Du 390 people, accounting for 0.49%; Kinh 7,502 people, accounting for 9.4%. In addition, there are other ethnic groups in the area such as: Hoa, Van Kieu, Tay, accounting for 0.18%.

The ethnic communities are always united, overcoming difficulties, actively working to develop the economy, society, and build new rural areas.

In recent times, the material and spiritual life of the people has improved significantly. In the period of 2019 - 2024, from the source of the National Target Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the district has supported Residential land for 10 households, housing support for 133 households, job conversion for 510 households, support for forest protection contracts of 54,875.37 hectares, support for forest protection of 38,511.09 hectares; establishment and support of 32 community production development projects; investment in construction of 41 works and projects on roads, markets, medical stations, schools, irrigation...

The program of cultural construction and development has made much progress, the cultural and spiritual life of the people has been improved. The movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" has developed extensively, with increasingly high quality. In 2023, the rate of cultural families in the district reached 86.2%, an increase of 15.2% compared to 2018; 89.9% of blocks, villages and hamlets were recognized as "Cultural Village", an increase of 20.9% compared to 2018...

At the congress, delegates contributed many enthusiastic and responsible opinions, proposing solutions to strengthen the great solidarity of ethnic groups; develop socio-economy, ensure national defense and security associated with preserving cultural identity, contributing to improving the quality of ethnic work in the period of 2024-2029.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister awarded a Certificate of Merit to Comrade Lo Thanh Nhat - Member of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district for his many achievements in work, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.

The Provincial Ethnic Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in ethnic work in the period of 2019 - 2024; The Chairman of the District People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 10 collectives and 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in ethnic work in the period of 2019 - 2024.

The congress also elected a delegation of 27 delegates to attend the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in Nghe An province and approved the draft resolution of the congress for the period 2024 - 2029.
