Two years ago, Thai Law Office received a couple from Vinh Phuc. The husband had tanned skin and was quite tall, while the wife was rough-looking and sloppily dressed. The couple came to Thai Law Office for advice and legal support to reclaim their child.

Through conversation, Mr. Thai learned that his wife's name was Hoang Thi Xuan (born in 1984) and her husband was Nguyen Van Vinh (born in 1980). Sending a petition to Thai's law office, Mr. Vinh stated that he and his wife had just given birth to their third child, who was over a month old.

One day, a man from Binh Da commune, Thanh Oai district, Hanoi suddenly came and claimed to be the father and took the baby away without permission. He even made a birth certificate for the child.

Upon receiving Mr. Vinh’s petition, lawyer Thai and his colleagues immediately got to work. In the process of learning about the incident and the life of Ms. Xuan and her husband, lawyer Thai went from one surprise to another.

Xuan and her husband have been married for 5 years and have two children, one boy and one girl. Vinh is a hard-working man, working on the fields all year round, and Xuan, after helping her husband with the harvest, applied for a seasonal job at a garment company.

Mr. Vinh is a hot-tempered person, so they often quarrel. Every time he can't control his actions, Mr. Vinh slaps his wife. Every time he beats his wife, he always shows remorse. According to the neighbors, if Ms. Xuan had been more tactful in her speech, Mr. Vinh would never have committed such violent acts.

All the troubles that led to this unusual story started from a never-ending argument between this couple. That time, just because of their child crying, Xuan and her husband raised their voices at each other. During the argument, Xuan kept calling her husband “you” and “I”.

Seeing his wife being rude, Vinh slapped her twice in the face. Xuan then yelled that if he dared to hit her again, she would leave home forever. Unexpectedly, after this sentence, he gave his wife two more slaps.

Because she was so angry, that same afternoon, Ms. Xuan grabbed all her clothes and took a bus to Hanoi. Here, Ms. Xuan contacted a man named Quan in Thanh Xuan district. Mr. Quan had a family and two pretty daughters.

No one knows when Ms. Xuan first met this man, however, immediately after meeting him, Mr. Quan rented an apartment for Ms. Xuan. This man often visited Ms. Xuan.

Notably, during the time she was with Mr. Quan, Ms. Xuan also continuously met another man who was temporarily residing on Nguyen Xien Street, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi. This man's name is Huynh, from Binh Da, Thanh Oai, Hanoi.

In addition to the evenings scheduled with Mr. Quan, Ms. Xuan often went out with Mr. Huynh. This man also seemed to be quite indulgent with his lover. He bought her jewelry, a smartphone, and took her out here and there. It is known that during this time, Mr. Huynh also discovered that he had terminal liver cancer.

Seeing his wife leave for a whole month without returning, Vinh repeatedly called to apologize and reconcile. At this time, Xuan was not embarrassed and loudly announced to her husband about her pregnancy with another man. Although Vinh was very angry, he was afraid that his wife would not return so he softened his voice. Vinh promised that no matter whose child it was, he would still love it and consider it as his own.

Despite her husband's pleas, Ms. Xuan still stayed in Hanoi, occasionally returning to her hometown to visit her children for a short while. Only when she gave birth did she agree to return home. When Ms. Xuan's child was half a month old, Mr. Huynh went to his lover's house.

After a day of tense discussions, Vinh’s family finally agreed to let Huynh take Xuan and the child. Back home, he publicly announced to his family and relatives that the child was his. Needless to say, Huynh’s parents were overjoyed. Because he had cancer and was not married, he had no hope of getting married and having children.

Now suddenly seeing their child bring home a healthy baby boy, his parents were happier than finding gold. Then Mr. Huynh's family slaughtered a pig, prepared dozens of feasts to treat the neighbors. Then, he quickly went to the commune People's Committee to get a birth certificate for his child with Ms. Xuan's consent.

After staying at Mr. Huynh's house for more than a month, Ms. Xuan's husband kept urging his wife to go back to her hometown. But Mr. Huynh's family insisted that she could go but had to leave the baby behind. And because she loved the baby so much, Ms. Xuan kept lingering. Finally, many people advised the couple to find a lawyer to resolve the matter.

“Perhaps everyone will be very surprised if they hear what Ms. Xuan said. When asked in detail, Ms. Xuan admitted that during that same period, she not only had relationships with Mr. Quan and Mr. Huynh, but also had relationships with 4 other men. That means even she herself does not know who the father of the child is,” said Mr. Thai.

After receiving advice from lawyer Thai, Ms. Xuan and her husband went to the police station to report the incident. After receiving the complaint from the couple, the police invited Mr. Huynh to work. Here, Mr. Huynh showed the baby's birth certificate and said that he took the baby away with Ms. Xuan's family's consent. To clarify the matter, the police made an appointment with Mr. Vinh and Mr. Huynh's family for a working session.

On the appointed day, not knowing where the information came from, not only Mr. Huynh, Mr. Quan, Ms. Xuan and her husband, but also 4 other people came to the headquarters one after another. All 4 men also introduced themselves as the father of the child Ms. Xuan gave birth to.

Hearing this, the police officers, Vinh’s family members and the lawyer were all surprised. And when asked about the information these men had given, Ms. Xuan bowed her head slightly and admitted that she had slept with all of them.

At this meeting, the police officer intervened to mediate and settle the matter. Mr. Huynh insisted that he had made the birth certificate for the child and was therefore the legal father of the child.

Mr. Quan argued that since Ms. Xuan had come to him when she first came to Hanoi, the child was definitely his. Similarly, the other men also insisted that they were the child's father.

Seeing that the situation was too complicated, the lawyer suggested that all seven men take a DNA test to determine who the father of the child was. However, all seven men who claimed the child refused this request. They even said that even if the child was not theirs, they still wanted to adopt the child.

“After a while of arguing, I stood up to represent Ms. Xuan and her husband. I argued that although Mr. Huynh had the child’s birth certificate, it was undeniable that Mr. Vinh and Ms. Xuan were still married. Therefore, when Ms. Xuan was pregnant, no matter whose child it was, Mr. Vinh was still the legal father of the child.

Accordingly, taking the baby away and arbitrarily making a birth certificate, claiming to be Mr. Huynh's father is a violation of the law. If Mr. Huynh does not return the child to Ms. Xuan and her husband, he could be prosecuted for child kidnapping. At this time, Mr. Huynh showed fear and asked to return the child to Ms. Xuan," recalled lawyer Thai.

A week after the work session ended, Mr. Thai suddenly received news that Ms. Xuan had committed suicide by drinking pesticide. She was taken to Bach Mai Hospital for emergency treatment. When they learned that she was hospitalized, 7 men took turns to come and take care of her very attentively.

“After that, I didn’t hear any more information from Ms. Xuan and her husband. I was really shocked, because I didn’t expect a woman - in my personal opinion, she had no attractive features - to make 7 men fall in love like that,” Mr. Thai shared.
