New generation Hyundai Sonata launched in Vietnam

The all-new 7th generation Sonata is officially distributed in Vietnam with only one version, priced at 1.06 billion VND.

Compared to its competitors in the same segment, Sonata is the model with the advantage of being the youngest at present. Having gone through 6 generations since 1985, the 7th generation Sonata was first introduced last April in Korea. Hyundai has invested a total cost of about 418 million USD over 3 years to research, develop and launch the most important model of the company. The new Hyundai Sonata has been thoroughly tested in cold climate conditions at the company's technology center in Nuremberg, Germany and harsh terrain in the Mojave Desert in the US to best meet the diverse needs of customers around the world.

Fully imported models such as Honda Accord cost 1.47 billion or Nissan Teana cost 1.4 billion while Hyundai Sonata costs only 1.06 billion VND. Customers will hesitate between imported Sonata and two domestically assembled Toyota Camry (999 million) and Mazda6 (998 million), the price difference is about 60 million VND. The advantage of fully imported cars; reasonable selling price; completely new design with many rich equipment are the points that make Hyundai Thanh Cong confident in distributing the new generation Sonata.

While rival Toyota Camry is trying to rejuvenate, Hyundai Sonata is following the opposite trend. The graceful, smooth design of the old version is a big barrier for older customers to approach Sonata. The new version significantly overcomes this factor. The body has simpler beveled lines, not too fussy but sharp thanks to the second generation 'flow sculpture' design philosophy. The hexagonal grille and the logo on the car are what remains of the old version.

The bi-xenon lighting system has integrated auxiliary lights when steering. Like the previous version, the daytime running LED strip and LED taillights make the Hyundai Sonata stand out. The car has dimensions of 4855mm long, 1865mm wide and 1475mm high. The wheelbase is 2805mm. The length and width of the new version have been increased, making this model not much inferior to the current generation Mercedes E-class in Vietnam.

The Sonata's unmissable strength is its interior features. All leather seats, multi-directional power front seats, one-touch windows. The Sonata is the only model in its segment to feature a panoramic sunroof. Push-button start system with smart key, automatic headlights, rain sensor, front and rear sensors with rear camera, rear seats with sunshades and reading lights... are available equipment on the new Sonata.

The car's safety features include a four-wheel disc brake system with ABS anti-lock braking system. ESC active body stabilization system, HAC hill start assist, and a system of 7 airbags in the cabin to help protect the driver. The new generation Sonata uses 18-inch rims with 235/45 Kumho tires.

The new Hyundai Sonata has been strongly upgraded in terms of frame and body. Accordingly, more high-strength steel is used (51% compared to 21% before). In addition, the new frame structure also helps the car increase 41% of the body's anti-torsion force. The above efforts helped the new generation Sonata achieve the "Top Safety Pick" award in 2014 organized by the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). According to Consumer Reports, thanks to the improvement efforts, the new generation Sonata has significantly reduced noise, better vehicle quality, bringing a more comfortable feeling for the driver and passengers.

The Sonata version distributed in Vietnam has a 2.0 engine with a capacity of 157 horsepower at 6,200 rpm. Maximum torque of 200Nm at 4,000 rpm. Engine power is distributed through a 6-speed automatic transmission, without paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

Hyundai Thanh Cong distributor expects sales of the new Sonata to be between 50 and 70 cars per month. The company also said that in 2013, about 600 more genuine Sonatas were sold in Vietnam./.
