(Baonghean.vn) - The United Nations Nuclear Monitoring Agency has just requested member states to provide additional financial support to fulfill its role under the agreement to dismantle Iran's nuclear program, according to its head, Yukiya Amano. It was announced on August 25th that current funds would be depleted next month.

The costs of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) operations regarding Iran have so far been covered through off-budget contributions from member states.

Following the agreement reached between Tehran and six world powers on July 14, the lifting of sanctions against Iran depends entirely on IAEA reports on the country's past and present nuclear program.

Mr. Amano called on member states to support the IAEA with the necessary funds to carry out its current work in Iran, and said that the 800,000 euros ($924,000) per month the organization has been receiving will run out by the end of next month.

The agency will need an additional €160,000 per month to move toward implementing the agreement of July 14, which is expected to take place early next year. Once the agreement is officially implemented, the agency will need €9.2 million annually.

Mr. Amano said he would discuss including spending on monitoring and verifying the Iran agreement in the regular budget from 2017 onwards. This portion of the budget reached approximately 350 million euros last year.
