Interpol held a meeting in Hanoi to discuss combating crime.
This morning, nearly 1,200 delegates will begin the agenda at the first-ever Interpol General Assembly held in Vietnam. Security has been tightened around the My Dinh National Convention Center.
On October 30th, a day before the 80th Interpol General Assembly, Colonel Dang Xuan Khang, Chief of the Interpol Vietnam Office, told VnExpress.net that to ensure security, many police forces from the Ministry of Public Security and the Hanoi City Police were mobilized. Military forces were also present to ensure security both inside and outside the premises.

The 80th Interpol General Assembly, themed "Connecting Global Police for a More Peaceful World: Strengthening Partnerships, Building Capacity, and Innovating," is attended by approximately 1,200 delegates. Interpol members will exchange ideas on preventing and combating transnational crime on various topics. The Vietnamese delegation will present a paper on experiences in crime prevention strategies over the past 20 years, delivered by Deputy Minister Pham Quy Ngo.
"This is an opportunity for us to reaffirm our efforts in combating transnational crime with countries around the world, while also strengthening solidarity and friendship among nations...", Colonel Khang said.
Prior to the 80th Interpol General Assembly, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with the Executive Board of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), led by President Khoo Bun Hui.

According to Chinhphu.vn, at the meeting, the Prime Minister highly appreciated Interpol's role in coordinating the prevention and control of international crime. The Prime Minister welcomed the contents of the agenda of this session, which include the prevention and control of various types of crime, especially high-tech crime, combating piracy, as well as the cooperation program to enhance the capacity of international police forces.
The Prime Minister stated that although Vietnam has controlled various types of crime, the crime situation remains complex. Therefore, Vietnam wishes to further strengthen cooperation with Interpol in combating all types of crime; exchange experiences in crime prevention and control; and cooperate in training officers and enhancing the capacity of the police force. Vietnamese police will continue to cooperate closely and effectively with Interpol in combating all types of crime, especially transnational crime, to ensure peace and security for all citizens.
Interpol President Khoo Bun Hui highly appreciated the close and effective cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Interpol, and expressed his desire to further promote stronger cooperation between Interpol and the Vietnamese police force in crime prevention and control.
The 80th Interpol General Assembly took place over four days, from October 31st to November 3rd.
In the 20 years since joining Interpol, Vietnam has received and processed more than 12,000 pieces of information related to international fugitive apprehension, more than 12,000 pieces of information related to the fight against transnational criminal offenses, and more than 6,000 pieces of information related to drug and economic crimes. |
