The IOC plans to "cut" the composition of the Russian national team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, possibly leaving just 40 athletes to compete, according to the Telegraph.

The British newspaper said that the IOC had asked for the help of "independent experts" who were tasked with "filtering out" Russian athletes who had passed "insufficiently rigorous" anti-doping tests. As a result, the Russian team was left with just 40 people.

On July 24, the IOC Executive Board decided to allow the Russian team to the Olympics in Rio. At the same time, officials made an important note: international sports federations will decide who will compete. The main requirement for accepting athletes is to have no "doping history."

The IOC's ruling "filtered" all Russian athletes previously suspended by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
