Tehran unveiled the latest variant of its Fateh short-range ballistic missile, which is said to have precision guidance and stealth features.

"As promised to our people, we are ready to invest all resources to strengthen Iran's missile potential. The latest version of the Fateh ballistic missile is completely domestically produced, has stealth capabilities, is flexible and has precision guidance," Iran's news agency said.Tasnimquoted Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami as saying today.

General Hatami did not disclose the tactical and technical features of the new generation missile, but it seems to be able to reach a range of up to 500 km and accurately hit targets thanks to a modern seeker system. "The pressure and psychological warfare against Iran will only increase our will to improve our defense capabilities," Minister Hatami affirmed.

Last week, US satellites detected Iran secretly test-firing the latest Mod 3 version of the Fateh-110 ballistic missile during exercises in the Strait of Hormuz. The missile has an inertial guidance system and an electro-optical seeker to track a warship as it descends. Tehran successfully tested the Fateh-110 Mod 3 last year, hitting a simulated target at sea from a distance of 250 km.

The ballistic missile program is a contentious issue between Iran and the United States, which recently withdrew from the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers. Washington believes that Tehran's missile and nuclear programs threaten its neighbors and U.S. forces in the Middle East, while Iran insists that its ballistic missiles are for defensive purposes only in the volatile region.
